Who's Who - Key Staff
Steve Miller was the founding director of the Marlowe Child & Family Services back in 1991. His previous professional experience includes working with children and young people in the Health Service and Voluntary Sector, where he worked as a Manager and Therapist. He has been a National Committee Member for the Eating Disorders Association, and APSA (Association of Professionals in Services for Adolescents) and the Independent Children's Homes Association. He has taught extensively at several universities.
Maurice qualified as an accountant in 1971. Prior to joining Marlowe Child & Family Services in 2001, he had spent most of his career in industry, including 20 years in the motor trade. He is expert in systems, and strategic and financial planning. Maurice manages the Administration and Finance Department. He is responsible for contracts and business development. He sits on the Board of Directors.
Richard joined St David's ASC in 1996 as a Residential Social Worker, having previously worked as a Youth Worker. He has an NVQ Level IV in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) and ILM Management Level IV. In addition he has a HND in Business & Finance and an HNC in Community Care. Richard has worked at all levels at St David's. In 2001 he took his first Unit Manager's position in charge of a four bedded home for younger adolescents. In 2005 he became Education Manager and Deputy Care Services Manager, being promoted to his current position in April 2006.
Diane joined Marlowe Child & Family Services in early 2006 from a mainstream Comprehensive School in Cirencester, where she had been a Special Needs Teacher since 1996. She obtained her Teaching Certificate from the South Bank Polytechnic in London in 1977. She is a very experienced Special Needs Teacher with significant additional training in Emotional and Behavioural Disorders, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, and Specific Learning Disabilities such as Dyslexia. She has also significant creative skills, having previously been Head of Textiles and Design in a large Comprehensive School in Kent. She has thirty years SEN experience.
In the 1960's Gronwy qualified as a teacher from Keele, taught in Kent and then took a graduate assistantship at the University of North Carolina. On returning to the UK he completed his M.Ed. and then took up a post as Head of PE at a deprived East-End school. Whilst there he completed a B.Sc. in Psychology and an M.Sc. at London Institute of Education in ‘The Psychology of Education’. Gronwy then spent several years teaching trainee teachers Psychology, Counselling, and the effects of personality on learning. He completed his own studies with a Ph.D. in 1986 and from then until 2001 he was on an ESRC Teaching Fellowship at Wolverhampton University. Since 2001 he has been working at St David's Education Unit. During this period he has used his significant experience and knowledge to develop a first-class school for St David's ASC.
Tonia first joined Marlowe Child & Family Services when it first opened in 1992. During the intervening years she has worked as a Residential Care Worker, Teaching Assistant and Care Manager. She worked for several years at Althea Park House (at the time part of Marlowe Child & Family Services) with young women with eating disorders. She completed her NVQ 3 in Caring for Children and Young People in 2001, her NVQ 4 in Care in 2003 and her NVQ 4 in Management in early 2005. She is an NVQ assessor. She also undertakes training for Marlowe Child & Family Services on Child Protection and Dealing with Bullying Behaviour.
Ian joined Marlowe Child & Family Services in 2000, after a career in the Armed Forces. He completed his NVQ 3 and his NVQ Assessors Course in 2001, and his Internal Verifiers Course in 2007. He completed his NVQ Level 4 in Management in early 2005. He is currently undertaking a NVQ Level 5. He has been the Registered Manager at Eastnor House since it opened in 2004, and has been the driving force behind its success, consistently receiving very positive Inspection Reports and positive outcomes for children with highly special needs.
On leaving school Tanya completed a GNVQ in Health and Social Care before going on to obtain a 1st Class Honours Degree in Psychology from Staffordshire University in 2000. She joined Marlowe Child & Family Services 2002 and has subsequently acquired her NVQ 4 in Care and Management, as well as NVQ Assessors Award. Tanya has a special interest in Pervasive Development Disorders such as Autism and Asperger's Syndrome and has undertaken significant postgraduate training in this area. She became a Unit Manager in 2005 and became the first Registered Manager at ‘The Haven’ when it opened in 2006, developing its innovative approach.
Sue came to her current career after bringing up her own family and working in finance and business administration. She joined St David's ASC in 1997 and was promoted to a Team Leader in 2000. In 2001 she became a Unit Manager. Alongside her career she has pursued extensive training and personal development, completing a NVQ III in 1999 and an HNC in Community Care in 2000. In 2006 she obtained a BA in Social Work from Robert Gordon University. She completes IML Level IV in Management in 2007. Sue also facilitates in-house at St. David's ASC including delivering value-base training and healthy lifestyles. Sue is particularly interested in promoting positive outcomes for children with learning disabilites.
Jenny left school in 1989 with an ambition to work in the Care Sector. She initially completed an NVQ Level III in Social Care at Oswestry College in Shropshire, before going on to complete NVQ Level IV in Care and ILM Management. She joined the team at St David's in 1998. She became Unit Manager of Oaklands in 2003. Jenny's particular interests include Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Learning Disabilities and working with sexually vulnerable young women.
Prior to beginning his career in working with children Shane gained valuable management experience in the Hotel and Tourism Sector. After joining St. David's ASC he worked as a Care Worker and Senior Care before being promoted to Unit Manager of ‘Upper House’. Shane left St. David's ASC following restructuring and reorganisation to work as a manager at ‘Tracs’, in a residential unit for clients with severe autism. Shane also worked at Impact Youth Services as a manager before rejoining St. David's ASC and taking up the manager's position at Walton Lodge in 2007. He also completed his NVQ4 in Care and Management in late 2007.
