History & Introduction
Marlowe Child & Family services Limited were formed in 1991 by a small group of professionals led by Director Steve Miller. Our first home, a seven-bedded children's home with an education annexe on-site, was registered in January 1992. Following some initial development with additional homes in Gloucestershire, in 1994, we opened our first home in Pembrokeshire, in West Wales.
In the past 18 years we have offered placements to over 75 Social Services Departments, Health Authorities and Education Departments from Norfolk to Pembrokeshire, from Cornwall to Newcastle, and including Scotland to the Republic of Ireland, as well as England and Wales.
In 1998 we developed a radical new approach to the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia with the opening of Althea Park Eating Disorder Service. Further innovations followed into the treatment of deliberate self-injury. In 2004 Althea Park was sold to Care UK Plc.
In recent years we have focused on providing care, education and therapy in largely four-bedded homes for children and young people with a high dependency needs. The homes are based in Gloucestershire and Worcestershire (under the name ‘Marlowe’), and Pembrokeshire (under the name ‘Marlowe St David’s’). Both of these two regions are supported by their own schools (Marlowe School and St. David's Education Unit), Senior Care Management and Clinical Teams. There are also local administration offices and administration staff.
In 2008 Marlowe Child & Family Services and Pathway Care Fostering Agency develop an innovative partnership to provide a new service under the name of Safe Steps. This programme of care is design to help troubled children and young people, especially those with a history of placement disruption, become successfully established with a specialist foster family.
In 2010 Marlowe Child & Family Services developed Climb Clinical Services; a company providing psychological assessments (including court work), as well as therapeutic programmes and a consultancy service.
The Marlowe Child & Family Services group employs over 175 staff. Professional staff include, Social Workers, Qualified Residential Care Staff, Clinical and Educational Psychologists, Play Therapists and Creative Therapists, Teachers and Teaching Assistants.
